Gin Distillery Movement and Reinstallation
Gin Distillery Movement and Reinstallation
Finch of Bookham recently completed a complex project involving the movement and reinstallation of a gin distillery, demonstrating our expertise and precision in handling such specialised tasks.
Delivery and Setup
Our Hiab vehicle was positioned by the Lift Supervisor within 12m of the site entrance. A landing platform was created with Christchurch cribs at the loading bay and covered with road plates. Our Hiab vehicle then proceeded to set up in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and guidelines and two 2.1t 2-leg chains were attached to the crane hook.
Movement and Positioning
The hook was placed over the centre of the load. Nylon slings were passed around the load and secured with the choke method. The slings were attached to the chain hooks. The hook was raised until the slinging arrangement became secure.
The load was slewed from the vehicle and lowered onto the loading bay/platform. The slings were removed, and the load was moved into the building on a pallet truck and machine skates.
Installation and Equipment Removal
To move the still on a round base came with its own challenges. Therefore, the load was lifted onto a square base, which made it more controllable for jacking and moving.
Two jacking stands were placed on either side of the base, leaving enough room for the plate to be moved beneath it. One eco jack was placed on each stand.
Two needle beams were placed through the top of the base and on the head of the jack. The jacks were packed up with aluminium packers as required. Plywood square or rubber was placed between the needle beam and the head of the jack. The jacks were raised simultaneously. Once clear of the ground, aluminium packers were placed under the load until the load was 50mm clear of the ground.
Once clearance was achieved, the supporting plate was rolled under the centre of the still and the jacks were simultaneously lowered onto the centre of the plate.
The still was secured on the plate with load straps around the still and attached to the lashing points on the plate.
